In July Grintage announced the Electric Picnic were looking for the new ‘A Rubbish Song for Europe’ to celebrate 20 years since Fr Ted’s classic ‘My Lovely Horse’.
Great timing! The best song by far is sung by Katie Walsh in her Mayo GAA shirt and she co-wrote it with her English boyfriend Sam. ‘I Can’t Tell My Mam That My Boyfriend’s a Tan’ is a very clever and funny rap about their relationship. For those who don’t know who / what a ‘Tan’ is google The Black & Tans in Ireland. Suffice to say their visit was ‘deadly’.
Katie says – “The day I moved to London everyone was saying their goodbyes, and my dad came up and whispered into my ear: Whatever you do, don’t come home with an Englishman!”
Well she did. And the Mayo shirt & Sam go very well together? The Irish/English couple performed the song live on stage at My Lovely Ranch venue at the Electric Picnic at the weekend.
