Irish comedy The Stag was released in cinemas back in March 2014 and is on tonight on RTE Two. Do watch it live or record for later.
Directed and co-written by John Butler, it’s about a stag party weekend in the great outdoors that takes some unexpected detours. As proof of its commercial appeal the script has been optioned in the USA for a re-version and its US distributor re-titled it The Bachelor Weekend – so don’t be confused if you see that title in the TV billings.
The Treasure Entertainment produced film is centred around lead Hugh O’Connor as ‘the stag’ who is so busy he doesn’t even want to think of organising a ‘session’ with the lads before his wedding. Fiancée Amy Huberman takes the it into her own hands and convinces best man Andrew Scott to take him away for the weekend. The brilliant comic cast also includes Michael Legge, Andrew Bennett, Brian Gleeson and Peter (The Machine) McDonald.
It is way up there as one of the best Irish film comedy ever and no suprise it has been a success worldwide.
The Stag is finally on our telly’s tonight on RTE 2 at 9:30pm.
