We here at Grintage are huge fans of Cork born / New York based comedian Maeve Higgins.
Maeve broke through when she started fooling the Irish public on RTE Two comedy prank series Naked Camera back in 2005. Maeve has come a long way since then but we want to look back on one of her TV shows from 2009.
Fancy Vittles actually toured live before being recorded for the small screen. It was written and performed by Maeve and her sister Lily Higgins (now writer, blogger and last year The Great Irish Bake Off judge) who assisted her in the kitchen as they prepare food for different people. As the sisters try to impress their family, friends and boyfriends with their cooking skills Maeve talks to the camera throughout. She talks us through her thoughts about the guests who will be attending the dinner party while offering words of advice.
The show is the perfect example of simple clever Irish humour. Maeve’s narration is accompanied by old Irish footage and animation.
In the first episode the girls are having their old school friends over. Maeve gives us some words of advice like how to take a compliment and how to dress for Halloween. Watch it above.
… and if you missed Maeve as a stand up here’s a bonus …
