NBC has ordered a new comedy pilot ‘Saving Kenan’.
If you’re old enough to remember, you’ll know Kenan Thompson from the iconic Kenan and Kel. Here is the theme tune just for that nostalgia hit!
Since 2003 though, Kenan has become a solid member of the Saturday Night Live cast. He is currently the longest-running cast member in the show’s history, having been in the line-up for 16 seasons. In an interview with Deadline he said:
“They’re like my big giant family,” he said of his co-workers. “It’s spending quality time and doing quality work with quality people. If it was possible I’d stay forever and just retire as the one guy that never left, basically. I’d be totally fine with that, but at the same time I still have aspirations.”
However, this might all change as NBC have just ordered a new comedy pilot ‘Saving Kenan’ starring the comedian.
It will be a single-camera comedy by writer and executive producer Jackie Clarke whose work includes Superstore and Happy Endings. Kenan will star as a “newly widowed dad determined to be everything for his kids while begrudgingly letting his persistent father-in-law become more involved in their lives.”
If this pilot becomes a series then Kenan may have to leave SNL.
