What a week for Al Porter! The Dublin comic has been shortlisted for Best Comedy Show at this year’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards and he also stars in RTE Radio 1’s Don’t Quote Me! panel show this Saturday at 6pm. See him below in a promo video talking about his appearance.
Other Irish comedians who have been nominated & won at Edinburgh in the past include Sean Hughes, Tommy Tiernan and Dylan Moran. Even a nomination can lead to great things as the UK TV industry descend on who ever is deemed the brightest hope. To be fair Al has been tipped for a couple of years now and by far Ireland’s most exciting comedy performer!
During August, Al has won over the hearts and laughter of the crowds and judges at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This award is known as the Oscars of comedy so we aren’t surprised that the old school comic entertainer says he is “over the moon and so surprised and thrilled. I’ve been having a ball with audiences of all ages over here in Edinburgh and to be nominated for this award like my heroes Tommy Tiernan and Dylan Moran were before, is just surreal. I couldn’t believe it when I heard. The judges had been in to see the show 18 times. I had no idea, which is a good thing or I would have been too nervous. I’m definitely expecting a free pint in my local The Dragon in Tallaght now”.
If you weren’t lucky enough to see him in action in Edinburgh his show At Large kicks off in Vicar Street Sept 9th. See our gig guide for full details.
Tune into RTE Radio 1 this Sat Aug 27th and Sept 3rd at 6pm where Al Porter will be starring in Sideline’s comedy panel series Don’t Quote Me. The youngest ever Edinburgh Best Show winner Sean Hughes (also from Tallaght) is the host.
