TV NEWS: Melissa McCarthy Fox Comedy

Queen of comedy acting Melissa McCarthy is now expanding her talent and developing a family comedy for Fox.

Daughter of Michael McCarthy (of the Cork McCarthys) she was raised on a farm in Illinois in a large Irish / US Catholic family. The award winning actress may be one of the most recognisable women in film comedy along with Kristen Wig and Tina Fey. Every film she stars in proves to be a hit. She also played a lead role in CBS comedy Mike & Molly for six seasons before it was cancelled.

The untitled comedy will be single cam and centered around an unconventional family. They include a successful business man, his estranged sister and her two kids all living in the one house.

The show is written by  Jim Cashman and Mitch Silpa who are also co-executive producers. The pair are also actors who you may recognise from starring alongside Melissa in The Heat, The Boss, Bridesmaids and Spy. Cashman is also a regular with Saturday Night Live.

Melissa is co-producing the show with her husband Ben Falcone. Falcone makes small appearances in a lot of his wife’s movies where there on screen relationship is hilarious. One example includes Bridesmaids where Melissa sits beside a stranger on a plane (Falcone) guesses he is an air Marshall and tries to seduce him.
