TV NEWS – ABC to remake Raised By Wolves

Happy ending! Juno creator Diablo Cody is adapting Caitlin Moran’s recently cancelled British sitcom Raised by Wolves for US network ABC.

Cody has teamed with Berlanti Productions, which currently has six series on the air including The Flash and Arrow, to develop the half-hour comedy for the Disney-owned network. Cody will exec produce alongside Moran, Berlanti, Caroline Leddy, who exec produced the original with Big Talk’s Kenton Allen and Matthew Justice.

Raised By Wolves tells the semi-autobiographical story of the Midlands upbringing of Moran in a big family with Irish parents. Moran told Broadcast’s Talking TV podcast: “We were very aware it was the only sitcom about and written by working class women in Britain, which is pretty shameful given that the working classes are the funniest of all of the classes.” The Ch4 series was also directed by Dubliner Ian Fitzgibbon (Paths to Freedom, Threesome, Moone Boy)

The third series of the Big Talk-produced show was suddenly scrapped by Ch4 earlier in August. She launched a social media campaign #upthewolves and we in grintage (and you?) got on board to protest against Ch4’s decision.  Watch her funny appeal above.

Now it could be on one of the big US TV channels with massively increased writer’s fees, residuals and budgets. Funny old world.
