VIDEO: Attention all Northern Irish Comedy Writers

… this is really good news for those comedy writers who have strong links to Northern Ireland.

Creative Skill set and Grand Scheme Media are delighted to announce a scheme aimed at Northern Irish writers interested in writing Comedy Drama and narrative Comedy. Writers will be able to submit a script which, if shortlisted, will be performed live on stage at the Belfast Media Festival in November 2016.

The writing programme opens on 11th July 2016 and writers can submit one script of no more than 25 mins duration. The script must be either comedy drama or narrative comedy and suitable for staging at the festival. This ‘innovation’ echoes the TG4/RTE/Screen Training Ireland sitcom course in Galway held in 1997 & 1998 that ended with four new Irish scripts staged with professional actors at the Taidhbhearc Theatre in front of an invited audience.

For this new NI competition writers must submit their scripts to Grand Scheme Media by 3rd August 2016. A shortlist will be announced on 2nd September 2016.

The six shortlisted writers will be connected with industry professionals to prepare their scripts for showcasing. This programme has been created by London based Grand Scheme Media, in association with key funding partner Creative Skill set and supported by Northern Ireland Screen and BBC Northern Ireland. Also closely involved will be BBC Comedy Commissioning, the BBC Writers room, the Belfast Comedy Writers group and, of course, the Belfast Media Festival team.

SCRIPTS SHOULD BE EMAILED TO: hollie@grandscheme.tv

FYI  Northern Ireland writers relates to those based in the region, from the region or who regularly work in the region.  As of today there is no similar scheme for TV comedy writers based in the South of Ireland.

PS grintage commissioned a video from NI Comedy talent Michael Stranney (aka JJ Hopes) a few months backMichael is an exciting TV/Film comedy actor poised for stardom and lives in Belfast. Dublin based grintage supports and will promote Irish comedy talent north and south.

Watch out for a RTE Radio 1 / BAI / Sideline / Grintage call out for radio half hour comedy scripts in September. Irish comedy writers north, east, west or south welcome. Just access grintage’s SEARCH button and learn more about writing your sitom; developing plots and creating your cast.
