GENE WILDER, who regularly stole the show in such comedic gems as “The Producers,” “Blazing Saddles,”Young Frankenstein “, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” and “Stir Crazy,” has died.

He passed away earlier today Monday at his home in Connecticut USA of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was 83 and had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1989.

Gene Wilder who is acclaimed as one of the great comedy character actors appeared in some of the best comedies ever produced including Young Frankenstein.

Some say this was his best scene – Start The Revolution without Me

Most would say that his first film The Producers was the best screen comedy every made. It won an Oscar for best screenplay for its writer / director Mel Brooks with whom he would work with throughout his career. The comic actor, who was twice Oscar nominated, for his role in “The Producers” and for co-penning “Young Frankenstein” with Brooks usually portrayed a neurotic who veered between total hysteria and dewy-eyed tenderness.

“My quiet exterior used to be a mask for hysteria,” he told Time magazine in 1970. “After seven years of analysis, it just became a habit.”

If you get a chance watch the full movie of the original The Producers – avoid the re-make.

Let’s hope the TV stations change their schedule and remember GENE WILDER who passed away today aged 83.
