Amy Schumer is set to play Barbie in a live-action family comedy.
The comedian and actor will be reworking the Hilary Winston script with her sister Kim Caramele. The film has been compared to the like of Disney’s ‘Enchanted‘ , Tom Hank’s Big or Splash.
The storyline revolves around Barbie being kicked out of Barbieland for not being ‘perfect enough’ and sets out on an adventure in the real world. This will be the first movie of its kind for Barbie.
Choosing Amy to play the role is a positive move on Mattels behalf as they have received criticism in the past for young girls comparing themselves to the unrealistic figure of Barbie.
Amy Schumer has no problem standing up for women’s rights and body confidence. Earlier this year she called out Glamour magazine for including her in their plus-sized issue. “I think there’s nothing wrong with being plus size. Plus size is considered size 16 in America,” Schumer noted before revealing what size she wears. “I go between a size 6 and an 8. @glamourmag put me in their plus size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn’t feel right to me.”
The film director has yet to be confirmed but Sony Pictures has insisted that it will be a female director.
