NEWS: University course devoted to Homer Simpson

The University of Glasgow has made the headlines with offering a unique course that will rock the academic foundations to its very knees! HOMER SIMPSON PHILOSOPHY!!!!

Between January 14 and 21, the university will be offering a course entitled “D’oh! The Simpsons Introduce Philosophy,” set to link the character to philosophical questions surrounding morality, religion and free will. Who knew the Simpsons was so wholesome!

So is Homer a virtuous man?  According to the BBC, that is exactly the sort of question Dr. John Donaldson and his students intend to explore.

By examining several episodes of the animated series, the course aims to analyse Mr. Homer from all angles in order to better understand his philosophical motives.

“Homer is a very complex character in many ways,” explains Dr. Donaldson, a fan of the show since its beginnings in 1989. “He’s very gluttonous, he can be quite violent and self-interested. But at the same time, he’s a character that’s hard not to like.”

With the first set of classes already completely booked, the course will be running a second round on March 4.
