Finally there is an APP for that! US Comedy has finally joined the online world with an app tailored specifically for streaming the best comedy content out there.
Stand-up comedian David Scott has just launched his new app Laugh.ly. He has combined the on-demand capabilities of Spotify with the neglected listening genre of stand-up comedy. Up until now it ended up being a rigorous task to listen to comedy via the web. Scott saw a gap in the market and began working on the app early this year.
“Thirty years ago, comedy album sales made up 20 percent of total record sales,” Scott says. “This was the heyday of Eddie Murphy, Cheech & Chong, and even Andrew Dice Clay. But then distribution paths changed. People stopped buying albums and started streaming… Catalogs faltered and access to great comedy shrunk. Access shrunk, but interest never did.”
It now has hosts over 20,000 tracks featuring some of the biggest comedians including Kevin Hart, Louis C.K., Jim Gaffigan, Sarah Silverman, and Amy Schumer.
The app is available on Apple and Android. Our team here at Grintage have downloaded and tested the app and we are big fans! Similar to Spotify and Pandora it recommends channels you may like, trending artists, new releases, radio channels etc. It looks great too!
Another big plus to this app where Spotify fails is the profits gets split 50/50 between Laugh.ly and the comedy license holders.
Grintage also hosts it’s own Podcasts, Running Gags for comedy audio on the go, and plans to ad the best of Irish comedy as we go.
