Waterford Whispers News – Takes Over The World

The vicious satirists from the oldest city in Ireland have gone from new to old media with their compilation of the best articles from the last few years. Waterford Whispers started out as a Facebook page and has grown into a proper company, with employees and everything. In 2015 they were sued by Denis O’Brien, had their articles taken for actual North Korean propaganda and have now released their 2nd book! Word on the street is that it’s very funny, if you enjoy their articles then you know you’ll enjoy this.

Colm O’ReganThe Irish Mammies Christmas Book

Starting out as a Twitter account and since grown into several books and teatowels, the concept started by comedian Colm O’Regan perfectly captures the tone of Irish mothers we know and love. The new Irish Mammies book focuses on Christmas and was recently Shortlisted for Best Irish Published Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards. The previous two Irish Mammies books were wonderfully curated pieces that would suit any bookshelf so if you’re looking for something for your mother this Christmas, this book could be it.

Giving Out Yars

Tara FlynnGiving Out Yards

It’s been said the Irish can sometimes focus too much on complaining, so luckily for those of not too good at it comedy actress &  author Tara Flynn has written the quintessential guide just in time for Christmas. In the book, Flynn (Irish Pictorial Weekly, Savage Eye, Moone Boy) details the conversational rollercoaster that is talking to an Irish person. Know somebody who likes a good moan? Or somebody who likes to moan about the moaners? This could be the book for them.

Colm TobinSurviving Ireland

Colm has become one of Ireland’s pre-eminent Twitterati, with over 50k followers, countless retweets and appearances on must-follow Twitter account lists. Besides the social media platform he’s also an accomplished writer and producer, working on Brain Freeze for CBBC/RTE. For those of us who prefer our jokes printed he’s also got you covered with his new book, a sort-of survival guide which gives you “the tools you’ll need to navigate this often tricky little island”. Could be the perfect stocking filler for the Dad who likes jokes but is too scared to look for them on his phone.

David O’DohertyDanger Is Still Everywhere

The Perrier (now The Edinburgh Comedy Award) winning comedian is back with another book for children. Previously in his literary adventures he gave us facts about pandas and sharks and now he returns with his neighbour Doctor Noel Zone,  the world’s greatest (and only) Dangerologist. This book is a perfect present for any kids in the family who enjoy jokes about robots, volcanos and silliness. So while danger might be everywhere, so is this book as it’s available in all good (or evil) bookstores just in time for the holiday season.

Watch out for David’s run of the gigs at Whelans on Camden Street in the near future that includes a matinee (over 14s) and adult evening show with the wonderful Aisling Bea as special guest this Saturday Dec 19th.
