Yurty Jokes Live at The Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway Friday Oct 26th to Sun Oct 28th
Once again the Vodafone Comedy Carnival sees the return of the iconic 1930’s Spiegeltent to Eyre Square, but this year for the first time it will be joined by a newer, smaller, more intimate sibling – The Yurt.
Well-travelled readers will already be aware that a yurt is a circular tent of felt or skins on a collapsible wooden framework, used by nomads in Mongolia, Siberia, Turkey and more well-heeled attendees of Electric Picnic. It will now be used by nomadic comedians travelling through Galway.
The Spiegeltent and the Yurt are part of the Comedy Village, which will operate in Eyre Square throughout the Carnival. Featuring pop-up venues, food concessions, coffee stalls, information and ticket sales, as well as a full bar, this will be a warm, relaxed and inviting space to chill out before, between and after gigs (but not during!).
The Yurt will be open from Friday 26th to Sun 28th with a veritable feast of comedic offerings. The 100-capacity venue kicks off at 3pm each day with Yurty Talks with Republic of Telly’s Kevin McGahern hosting. The popular TV star will interview some very special guests to discuss such subjects as life on the road, comedic inspiration, writing, philosophy, humour and whatever else springs to mind. Reginald D Hunter, Phill Jupitus and Milton Jones are already confirmed as interviewees so you know it’s going to be good.

Fri 26th – Reginald D Hunter
Sat 27th – Phill Jupitus
Sun 28th – Milton Jones
From 5pm Friday and Saturday, The Yurt hosts an incredible selection of one person, hour long shows.
