For the first time in Ireland the 3Arena will be hosting a phone-free gig.
Chris Rock: The Total Blackout Tour is coming to Ireland Saturday September 30th in The 3Arena.
Everyone that is attending the show will have to either not bring their phone at all or leave it in a Yondr Pouch until it’s over.
The pouch allows phone signals to get through, so someone can feel a mobile vibrate when a message arrives. Anyone who needs access during a show may leave the room, have the device unlocked and use it in the lobby or outside — similar to the way smokers light up outside a non-smoking theatre. See the image below for what these pouches look like.
MCD says it is “similar to the way smokers light up outside a non-smoking theatre.”
The promoter says: “For any touring comedian, the increasing use of cell-phones at their live shows is becoming a major intrusion with the ringing, flashing lights, tweets, selfies etc affecting the quality of the performance.
“Some people spend the show posting the clips they record to You Tube rather than enjoying the actual live show they are attending.
“There is also the added problem for comedians who spend months polishing their performances to a high state of hilarity only to have their punchlines shared in advance by illegal recordings of their show.”
Rock has urged his fans to “take one night off from being the Paparazzo of our own life”.
“If you don’t want to surrender your phone to a Yondr pouch, then leave it a home, or in the car and rather than seeing it as an inconvenience – see it as liberating and enjoy the moment”, MCD adds.
Chris Rock has urged his fans to embrace Yondr and to take one night off from selfies, Snap Chats and Facebook updates.
This man is the real deal and probably the most exciting American stand up comedian of the 21st century. But Chris is much more than a comic. The Grammy and Emmy Award winning comedian is also an actor, director, writer and producer. Catch Chris Rock at the 3Arena in Dublin on Saturday 30th September, as part of his Total Blackout Tour.
With a career spanning more than three decades, Rock has enjoyed ongoing success in both film and television as a comedian, actor, writer, producer and director. In 2014 he led the ensemble cast of “Top Five,” a critically acclaimed comedy feature that he also wrote and directed.
In 2009 Rock ventured into the documentary world as a writer and producer of “Good Hair,” and in 2014 he executive produced “Eat Drink Laugh: The Story of the Comic Strip,” a documentary recounting the history of one of New York’s most famous comedy venues.
