Adam Sandler Actually Makes a Funny Comedy!

Adam Sandler brought his new comedy drama to Cannes Film Festival and it has received rave reviews!

The Meyerowitz Stories is a film by Noah Baumbach where he brings Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler back together for the first time since Happy Gilmore. Which was probably the last decent comedy that Sandler was in too!

It follows the story or two half-brothers in a messed up family in New York. Dustin Hoffman plays the head of the family along with his third wife played by Emma Thompson. The movie is screening in competition for the prestigious Palme d’Or prize at the annual event in France.

Adam Sandler’s comedy career hasn’t been going amazing in recent years with a lot of his movies ending being flops. During the premiere press conference Sandler admitted to jumping at the opportunity to play a more dramatic role after becoming “misty-eyed” laughing at the script.

“It’s different for a comedian when you get an offer like this,” he explained. “My first thought is, ‘I don’t want to let anybody down and work as hard as I can to know the material and be as good as I can be.'”

It all paid off though as after the screening the actor has received some of the best reviews of his career.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy applauds Baumbach for his “stingingly amusing” tale of a messed-up family, perfectly brought to life onscreen by “sterling turns from a wonderful cast”, highlighted by Hoffman and, “no kidding, Adam Sandler”, who he notes delivers “a legitimately fine and felt presentation of a modern sad sack”.

Variety’s Peter Debruge claims it’s Sandler’s “best role in 15 years”, insisting the movie is “a long way from the kind of slapstick comedies” fans are used to receiving from the funnyman, and Collider’s Gregory Ellwood agrees, declaring Adam and Ben both “excel” in the family drama.

Keep an eye out for this one, it is coming to Netflix very soon.
