The Irish Box-Office smash hit The Young Offenders is now available on Netflix, released on DVD nationwide and nominated for 7 IFTAs.
The Cork based comedy has been nominated in seven IFTA categories and take it from us, the hype is justified. It is up for Best Film; Best Director & Best Script – Peter Foott; Best Actor – Alex Murphy; Best Supporting Actor – Chris Walley; Best Supporting Actress – Hilary Rose and Best Editing – Colin Campbell.
Director / writer Foott said he and the team behind the film were “completely over the moon” with their seven nominations.
“The incredible journey of this film just keeps continuing to surprise us. We’re all absolutely delighted to have been recognised by Ifta with so many nominations.”
The comedy, which has grossed over €1.2m to date at the Irish box office and is still running in Omniplex Mahon Point in Cork, has received critical acclaim in both Ireland and UK and boasts a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Inspired by Ireland’s biggest cocaine seizure of €440 million off the coast of Cork in 2007, The Young Offenders follows two Cork inner-city teenagers, Conor and Jock, as they embark on a 160km road trip on stolen bikes in the hopes of finding an unrecovered bale of cocaine. It’s the debut feature from Foott and introduces new acting talent Chris Walley and Alex Murphy in the lead roles with comedians Hilary Rose and PJ Gallagher also starring.
Since its premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh last summer – where it was awarded Best Irish Feature – it has gone on to charm Irish and international audiences alike. It picked up an Honourable Mention for Best Comedy at the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas; picked up three awards at the LA Comedy Festival – the largest comedy festival in the US – and was acclaimed at the BFI London International Film Festival late last year. The film is set to be seen by audiences across the globe with numerous international distribution deals done.
The Young Offenders is also available to view across online platforms in Ireland including iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and Eir.
