Malaysia’s comedy veteran Harith Iskander has been crowned ‘the funniest person in the world’
The 50 year old won his title in the Laugh Factory’s 2016 contest held in Helsinki, Finland last Saturday. He was amongst four other contestants; Alex Calleja from the Philippines, Greece’s Katerina Vrana, Mino Van Nassau from India and Israel’s David Kilimnick. The first round included 89 contestants from 56 countries.
Ireland’s Jimeoin made it to the semi-finals!
The prize includes US$100,000 and a comedy tour around around the United States. As runner up Cajella received US$10,000 and in third place Vrana brought home US$5,000.
Known as the Godfather of Malaysian stand-up Harith announced on facebook: “It was a tough journey, in the semi finals we had Murilo Couto (Brazil- with 2 million fans), Michael Mittermeier ( Germany), Jimeon (Ireland) – comedy giants in Europe and I’m thrilled to share the stage with them,” the comedy veteran wrote. “It’s time to put comedy from Malaysia on the world map.”
