The Crystal Maze was one of the most celebrated British TV game shows of all time.
Rocky Horror maestro Richard O’Brien was a very striking unique and strange host for the original four seasons. Richard enjoyed playing the harmonica and randomly bringing up information about his ‘Mummy’ during the most crucial moments through out the show!
O’Brien guided contestants through four different style worlds – Aztec, Industrial, Futuristic, Medieval. Contestants battle at random games in the hopes of securing a crystal as a reward for finishing a challenge to earn 5 seconds towards the final game that took place in the Crystal dome.
Channel 4 are taking us back to the crystal dome with what was initially thought to be David Tenant taking on the role of host. It’s since been revealed that a very bald Stephen Merchant (The Office, Extras) will be in charge of the proceedings.
The channel shared a tweet of the celebrity contestants taking on the maze for charity, which includes former England footballer Rio Ferdinand and comedian Josh Widdicombe.

Although the episode has been said to be a charity one off, it has been speculated that if it does well, the show could be brought back for a rebooted series. Although we’re not sure yet if we’re ready for Stephen Merchant to take over as host, Time will tell…
The Crystal Maze will be back on your screens October 16 as part of Channel 4’s annual Stand Up To Cancer campaign.
