Top Irish / American TV host Jimmy Fallon is to host the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards after The Office star Ricky Gervais has been dropped.
And with a name like Fallon the Irish connection stretches all the way back to Cork, Galway, Leitrim and Longford on his father’s side. Fallon has hosted The Tonight Show since February 2014 and on his 1st ever show – to make sure his celtic cousins and clan met them in person – Irish band U2 were his special guests.
Nominations for the Golden Globes will be announced December 12th and the show will air in Ireland in early 2017.
“We’re thrilled to announce Jimmy as host of the 74th Annual Golden Globes,” said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt. “Jimmy Fallon is an exceptionally talented and dynamic entertainer and his charm, wit and incredible spontaneity will play exceedingly well both to everyone at the show as well as the millions watching at home from around the world.”
Jimmy – along with Brit James Corden and the other Jimmy (Kimmel) – are the new young guns of comedy TV hosting the most shared and talked about late night TV shows in America.
