COMPETITION: Electric Picnic wants a new ‘My Lovely Horse’

It’s 20 years since Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy co-wrote the classic ‘My Lovely Horse’ –  the  ‘Song for Europe’ entry for Father Ted Crilly and Father Dougal.

Read below for an exciting competition but first, to get an idea how bad the song has to be, here is the classic Channel 4 MLH video directed by Declan Lowney for the award winning Father Ted sitcom series written by Graham Linehan & Arthur Matthews.

Singer-songwriter and co-founder of the charity My Lovely Horse Rescue, Cathy Davey and Neil Hannon are now looking for somebody to write a modern day follow-up to ‘My Lovely Horse’.

Could that be you?

A live comedy talent contest will be held in My Lovely Ranch at the Electric Picnic on the afternoon of Sunday 4 September, to choose the winner. There’ll be special guest performances, A Lovely Girls’ Contest, a Father Ted fancy dress competition and much, much more!  Judges for the live contest include; Cathy Davey, Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy), Joe Rooney (Father ‘Damo’ Lennon) and Patrick McDonnell (Eoin McLove, Father Ted).

The competition is open to anyone to apply.

To enter

  • Upload your home produced video to YouTube / Vimeo / Facebook (please make sure that the link can be viewed publicly). It doesn’t need to be high tech, a video recorded on a smartphone will do.
  • Visit the My Lovely Horse Rescue website to apply by the closing deadline of 5pm on the 19 August
  • Applicants will be informed the week of 22 August whether or not they are through to the live final. Live finalists will receive weekend tickets to the Electric Picnic.
  • The judges are NOT looking for a new rendition of ‘My Lovely Horse’ but instead an original – or badly plagiarised – comedy number, with a performance bearing the hallmarks of a tight budget!
  • Though there is no entry fee, please take a moment to help My Lovely Horse Rescue, and lovely horses everywhere, by choosing to donate €10 during the application process.

The judges will then select up to 15 songs for the live final on Sunday 4 September at Electric Picnic 2016, in My Lovely Ranch, Trailer Park. Visit the My Lovely Horse Rescue Facebook for updates.
