Roddy Doyle’s 1991 movie The Commitments proved to be a huge success and launched a plethora of careers on stage, music and film. Not least his own!

Adapted from the 1987 book of the same name and directed by Alan Parker, it was the first part of the Barrytown trilogy (The Van & The Snapper). The the script was out and out comedy gold.
