The Young Offenders is inspired by Ireland’s biggest multi-million cocaine seizure in 2007 of the coast of Cork. It follows two inner-city Cork teenagers on stolen bikes trying to sell bale of cocaine worth 7 million while being pursued by the police.
It is written and directed by Peter Foott ( The Republic of Telly & The Rubberbandits ‘Horse Outside‘) and features his wife Hilary Rose who you may recognize from The Fear. The cast introduces us to some new faces such as Chris Walley and Alex Murphy. Comedian PJ Gallagher plays the role of a disabled drug dealer to which he compares to a really bad terminator “I am chasing two teenage lads to try and kill them for robbing drugs so I am not the nicest person in the world”.
Foott has claimed that the iconic films The Goonies and Stand By Me were inspirations for this Irish comedy. Some locations that you may recognize through out the film include Cork City and various locations along The Wild Atlantic Way.
The film will hit Irish Cinemas September 16th but if you can’t wait that long it will be premiering at the Galway Film Fleadh on the 8th of July.
