There’s Snow Business like Snow Business …
That mad looking man in the foreground is UK comedian Marcus Briggstock (photo Altitude Comedy Festival) – and he has to a reason to be happy. Last year he mixed his love of the snow with live comedy. And it all takes place in the snow capped beautiful region of Mayrhofen in Austria. The Altitude Comedy Festival is a far cry from The Electric Picnic Comedy Tent; Vodafone Comedy in the Iveagh Gardens or Galway in October. No this is more like the Winter Comedy Olympics where all the acts take to the stage and the ski slopes in their fancy dress snow suits.
Dublin born comedian Andrew Maxwell is one of main drivers of the most colourful and unique Comedy Festival in Europe. Joining Andrew at the Altitude Comedy Festival are fellow UK based Irish acts Abandoman & Katherine Ryan plus one the world’s best improvisers Dublin born Ian Coppinger. Add in Sean Lock, John Bishop, Daniel Sloss and Jim Jefferies – you can see why Altitude is called ‘the World’s No.1 Alpine Comedy Festival’.
As one performer wrote in UK’s Telegraph – There’s not a single red carpet, entourage or diva demand in sight at Altitude, so don’t be shocked when you happen to be rubbing shoulders with some of the comedy circuit’s biggest names. Whether it’s on a morning gondola or at gigs in the evenings when headliners such as Bill Bailey or Sean Lock join you in the bar after their set, Altitude proves that in the mountains the word celebrity means nothing.
Now in its 10th year, Altitude is now an established part of the season’s calendar, regularly hosting the world’s biggest comics over an intense five days of three shows a day, from 5pm to The Late Show finishing in the wee hours. On the final night of last year’s festival lederhosen-clad host comedian and keen snowboarder Andrew Maxwell brought the igloo down.
